5 Natural Ways to Manage Your Child's Eczema

As parents of children with Eczema, we know the "itchy life" all too well. While prescription medications offer quick relief, they aren't always a long-term solution. At Little Warriors SG, we believe in managing our children's skin from the inside out. Here are five natural strategies that have made a world of difference for our family in managing eczema.

1. Hydration is Key: Drink Up!

Getting kids to drink enough water can be a challenge, but for children with eczema, it's crucial. We saw remarkable improvements in our daughters' skin quality within days when we encouraged them to drink plenty of clean, filtered water. We aim for around 2 liters a day – it truly helps nourish their skin from within.

2. Detox: The Power of Poop and Pee

Our experience taught us that regular bowel movements and bladder emptying can significantly reduce itch. Those middle-of-the-night scratching frenzies often coincide with a full bladder! A quick trip to the toilet and reapplication of cooling skincare can often help them get back to sleep.

To support daily bowel movements, we recommend incorporating plenty of fruits, water (yes, again!), chia seeds, and dried prunes into their diet.

3. Prioritise Rest: The Healing Power of Sleep

The entire family is sleep-deprived because of itching and scratching. Adequate sleep is essential for the body to rest, repair, and recover. This means rushing home after dinners to start bedtime routines, saying no to social events that disrupt nap schedules, and even allowing the children to sleep in on school days if they have had a rough night.

4. Protect Their Skin From Scratching Damage

The urge to scratch is unbearable, and we understand that. Instead of saying "Stop Scratching," we empower our child to soothe the sensation safely. This is where Little Warriors Protective Sleeves come in! The padded protective sleeves are designed to minimize damage from scratching during sleep. We also keep cooling rollers, ice packs, skin relief sprays, and oils handy in every room and bag for immediate comfort.

5. Mental Wellness For the Whole Family

It took me years to realize how much my own mental state impacted my family's health and emotions. Investing in my own well-being was life changing. When I was happier and calmer, my children were happier and healthier too. Remember, supporting your own emotional health is a powerful way to support your child's journey with Eczema.
